Thank you for the Soul Food

It seems like just a second ago Sam and I were in London sharing a final hug and tear in our home, a place we have shared good and bad times, laughter, fun, tears, fights, frolicks, a lot of singing, table tennis and countless memories for so many of us. Although we are sad to leave it and our friends behind we arrive in SA with so much excitment for our new life and thankfully without tears!  It is a sunny sunday afternoon and I am sitting in unfamiliar silence as Sam has taken the little critter out. The sound of the wind against the palm trees and the crashing waves on the shore are in the background as I look out from the balcony. You dont realise how much you miss open space until you leave the city.I have missed writing to you all so here I am, encouraged by your love for da blog! I need it more than you, it is my therapy and way of feeling connected to you.

We've really had an incredible month, even though it was hectic and exhausting. Laith and I travelled to Beirut to see the grandparents and Uncle. It was by far one of the best times we have had. SO much love and attention, along with Mama's home cooking which always comes with a humongous heap of unbeatable comfort. I hope I can replicate that for Laith one day. ( I am already getting there with her chocolate cake recipe) It also gave my brother a crash course in parenthood in the absence of Sam – sorry for exhausting you so much (especially when this dumbass mother forgot the cotbed at the airport - and secretly so happy Sam did the same in Joberg!)
London was a wonderful visit, albeit hectic and stressful, you guys overwhelmed us with all the effort you made to see us and be with us. Our friends, every single one of you, whether we saw you once or numerous times, you are all an extended family to us and it warmed our hearts to see all the love you showered on our little fella. You made our visit memorable and I miss my girlfriends (Laith's superaunties!) who helped me out so much with him whilst I was trying to get things finished.

Sam escaped to enjoy a boys weekend in the South of France thanks to yours truly, whilst I enjoyed a cousin's wedding which brought with it the added bonus of seeing so many others I had not seen in years. I am so happy to have seen everyone I wanted, a little sad to have missed a few of you but we will be back for turkey, mince pies and a big bottle of bubbly (yes I time the visits to coincide with the boozy holiday season)
Nehme we spent one of the best nights together with you and Sonya, as if we were transported back 10 years, nothing changes! I got to see my galpals from school days - those are the kind of friends you can revert back to being a silly teenager with no matter how old you get! Doodie, Mike and Jason you gave my girls and I a night filled with belly laughs like only you know how. Ami for your kickass pasta and meatballs ( I will get the recipe out of you), Dana and Reem I had one of the best days at home with you guys and Laith (and a great mini fry up!) And most of all Rhona, Negar and Nadine...my true angels...words will never be able to do you ladies justice and I miss you on daily basis. Thank God for skype as it saves me from anti depressants and vodka.
Forgot how friendly everyone is here, even at the airport buying a drink the attendant stacking shelves started singing and dancing with me to Tracey Chapman playing on the radio...We cannot wait for you guys to start booking your tickets to come here. The next few months we will be flat hunting, settling Laith into playgroups, me meeting more Mums and families I hope, returning to the gym (petrified of what she is going to say and do to me!!), and most of all getting back into the groove of Durban life with my fellas.

until next time...
